5th Annual Holiday Fundraiser

Showcasing the Arts & Gifts of Individuals with Disabilities and/or Mental Illness.

Support local talented artists, gift makers, and the Pozez JCC’s Inclusion & Disability Services Department! Local vendors will be selling handmade arts, jewelry, photography, baked goods and so much more.  A portion of the proceeds will support our department and inclusion at the J.

In addition, you will be able to conveniently shop online for the entire month of November from select vendors.

Mention the Pozez JCC Fundraiser when you purchase from any of our vendors who are also selling online, and they will donate partial proceeds back to the J to help support inclusion and disability services.

Artist: Gwinn Studios by Ian Gwinn
Medium: Photography

Ian is a resident of Northern Virginia and a fine art and commercial photographer specializing in still life, landscapes and portraits.  He tries to create memorable images that tell a narrative about the human experience and our relationship to the environment and each other. Ian graduated in May 2016 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Photography from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

Jessica has Tourette’s Syndrome and OCD.  Jessica wrote these books in the hopes that she can educate children on learning important life lessons at a young age so that they can grow up as healthy, open-minded individuals…with great senses of humor!

People in the community donate used and new materials such as cards, yarn, buttons, an other craft items. With a caregiver, Katelyn helps to make gift tags, cards, totes, scarves and other knitted items.

Artist: Lee Jaworek

Lee calls his art Artism® - seeing the world through the prismatic lens of Autism. Lee is a young artist with Autism who tries to express his perception of the world through his art. Lee's Artism® is characterized by vibrant colors, balance, and impact. He believes 'each color is just as important as every other color. Lenny Campello, art curator and critic says: "Picasso once noted that 'there are artists who transform the sun into a yellow spot, but there are others who, thanks to their art and intelligence, transform a yellow spot into the sun.' Visit  and meet a superbly talented and visionary transformer.'

Michelle has always been interested in art and has taken classes for a number of years.   She enjoys creating something new and focusing on the details of the finished product.   Art relaxes her.

Artist: Milesartshop by Miles Sandford

Miles is a freelance artist and art is how he can communicate at times when things are hard or good in his life.  Art is what he loves and without that passion, he doesn’t know what he would be doing.  Miles is an autistic artist who hopes to become an art therapist.  Proceeds from his art sales will be going towards getting a service dog who will help with his disabilities. Miles hopes you enjoy his art!

Artist: Morid Mohammad-Vali

Medium: Print

Morid is a 24-year-old young man who loves drawing and creating characters.  His hope is to become a cartoonist one day. His passion for art started at age 11 when he was in middle school and that very first year won many awards in Prince William County Schools. Today he continues his art by displaying it on different websites, participating in art shows, and also has his own website and Instagram page. Morid is selling greeting cards and mini posters.

Artist: No Words Creations by The Akers Family
Medium: Fashion Jewelry

No Words Creations are made by Daria Akers, her daughter Lesley, her son Clark, and her husband Joe Klemmer. 

Daria Akers works full time and serves on the board of the Fairfax County - Falls Church Community Services Board. She has bipolar and shares her lived experiences in speeches though NAMI’s "In Our Own Voice" program. In her free time, she loves doing art and playing board games.

Kennedy (Lesley), Daria’s daughter, attends Pully Vocational Center and is in their culinary program. She has recently moved into a wonderful local group home and has a long-term boyfriend. Lesley loves playing on her phone and is extremely social.

Clark Akers, Daria’s son, is a 9-year-old fourth grader at Terra Centre Elementary School. He has ADHD and is working on developing his executive functioning skills. He loves math, science, building with K'nex, and playing both video and board games.

Joe Klemmer, Daria’s husband, is a retired (on physical disability) former computer programmer for the Federal government and serves on the Fairfax County - Falls Church Community Policy and Management Team. He was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome as an adult. He currently works part-time as a Tobacconist and is known for the many hats he wears.

Artist: Sophiola by Sophia Pineda
Medium: Watercolors

Sophiola sells prints and notecards bearing art created by Sophia Pineda, a young artist who happens to have Down syndrome. As a baby, Sophia faced life-threatening medical conditions, then later, many learning challenges. Today she is a vibrant and healthy high schooler who loves to paint, sketch, and help run her business.

Artist: Toni Popkin

Medium: Cards & #PawsativityRocks

The cards are a copy of Kol Ami‘s quilt which was created by their youth as a gift to the three congregations at Pittsburg’s Tree of Life synagogue who’s #HeartsTogether initiative transformed a site of tragedy into a site of beauty.  The quilt was one of 100 original pieces of youth art selected to adorn their perimeter during a period of healing and reconstruction. 

#PawsativityRocks are Toni Popkin’s creative, unique, one of a kind Kindness Rocks to help spread joy and positive messages to people. They are acrylic sealed but better kept inside for one’s personal enjoyment or gift giving. They are named for and signed by Toni’s Task Trained Service Dog, Bud.

Artist: Zafar Chaudhry

Medium: Painting & Mixed Media

Zafar is on the Autism spectrum and during the pandemic, he spent his time painting and creating objects of art.  His parents reproduced his paintings as all-occasion cards and card sets that he will sell during the festive season. “I hope you will support me.”
