Distinguished Speaker Series – Amy E. Schwartz
Opinion and Book Editor, Moment Magazine
Monday, October 19, noon
In stressful times, many of us turn to faith for comfort and solutions. Sometimes we seek out clergy for advice and answers to our questions. In Jewish tradition, though, there's never just one answer to a question—and disagreement can lead to the greatest wisdom. Amy E. Schwartz edits Moment Magazine's “Ask the Rabbis,” which poses an original and provocative question every issue to ten rabbis who span the spectrum of Jewish thought – from Humanist, Reform and Reconstructionist to Conservative, Sephardic and Orthodox—to see what they have to say. Questions have included “Is democracy a Jewish idea?” and “How do we balance civility with disapproval for others’ politics?” along with "Do Jews Believe In an Afterlife.” Ms. Schwartz will lead an interactive discussion about the rabbis' answers—and our own—on some of today’s most pressing issues.
