Making Apple and Honey Hand Pies Together!
Theme of the Week: Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year)
Monday, September 14, 4pm-4:45pm
Most enjoyed by ages 2-8yrs.
Presented by the Pozez JCC in partnership with PJ Library of Greater Washington
Get into the Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year) spirit with GJF! Have fun making apple and honey hand pies! Everything you will need is listed below. The fun will continue while the hand pies are baking! We’ll read stories and enjoy tasting apples dipped in honey (be sure to have extra sliced apples and honey on hand). Of course, you’re always welcome to just sit back, relax and enjoy Storytime!
Apple & Honey Hand Pie Ingredients:
- 2 cups peeled and diced apples (about two large apples). We suggest using two different types of apples—one tart and one sweet. Please chop your apples as described in recipe ahead of time. Another option: you can also use chunky applesauce for younger kids if you prefer, since the diced apple mixture will be hot.
- ¼ cup and 1 tsp honey
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- pinch of kosher salt
- 1 package of refrigerated store-bought pie dough (includes two discs)—you can find this in the refrigerator section near the Pillsbury dough. Note: Get an extra package of dough if you want to keep little hands busy!
- 1 egg, beaten
