Cocktails & Conversations with David E. Lowe, Author of Touched with Fire
Wednesday, September 30, 5pm–6pm
In collaboration with the Bender JCC of Greater Washington, JCRC of Greater Washington, and the Jewish Book Council
Join us for cocktails and conversation with JCRC Board Member Janis B. Schiff as she interviews author David E. Lowe about his powerful and timely story. Touched with Fire chronicles the life of Morris B. Abram and the Battle Against Racial and Religious Discrimination. From humble beginnings, Abram rose to positions of power and influence during his life, speaking out for Soviet Jews behind the Iron Curtain, Israel’s legitimacy as the Jewish State, desegregation during Jim Crow, and racial equality in Georgia’s electoral system which led to the Supreme Court’s ‘one person, one vote’ ruling. David Lowe won the 2019 National Jewish Book Award for Biography for this little-known story of Jewish leadership and courage, which opens a window into so many of the critical human rights issues of the 20th Century that continue to be relevant today. Touched with Fire: Morris B. Abram and the Battle Against Racial and Religious Discrimination is available at: https://www.scrawlbooks.com/book/9781640120969 for $37.05 (includes tax and free shipping).
Make sure to mix up the program’s signature cocktail: Fireball Hot Apple Cider (recipe to follow upon registration).
