Author Talk with Leslie K. Barry on Newark Minutemen
Thursday, April 29, 7pm-8pm
In partnership with Nashville JCC and JCC of Northern New Jersey
Based on a true story of forbidden love and unholy heroism, Newark Minutemen is set against the backdrop of an America ripped apart by the Great Depression and on the brink of war. It’s 1938 in Newark, N.J., and a shadow Hitler-Nazi party called the German-American Bund led by an American “Fuhrer” threatens to swallow democracy. In this dangerous time of star-spangled fascism, a romance forms between a Jewish boxer, Yael and the daughter of the enemy, Krista. Soon after, Yael is recruited by the mob and FBI to help bring down the Bund. Author Leslie K. Barry’s heartbreaking novel – soon to be a major motion picture -- captures an authentic portrait of a lost America searching for identity and fighting for freedom.
Please consider purchasing the book in advance with a signed bookplate via our local independent bookseller, Scrawl Books. Newark Minutemen is available in hardcover ($21.95) at: https://www.scrawlbooks.com/book/9781631950728
