Learn about this ancient community and how it found its way back to the promised land. Session one focuses on a new book which tells a fascinating, dramatic story of rescue. Session two highlights the unique history of Beit Israel and provides a first-hand account of the operation to liberate this massive group of people -- as portrayed in a recent film -- and their difficult resettlement in Israel.

Lit­tle did the guests know that the staff mem­bers were under­cov­er spies, work­ing for the Mossad —the Israeli secret ser­vice. What began with one cryp­tic mes­sage plead­ing for help, turned into the secret evac­u­a­tion of thou­sands of Ethiopi­an Jews and the spir­it­ing of them to Israel. 

Writ­ten by long­time BBC Mid­dle East cor­re­spon­dent Raf­fi Berg, this page-turn­er tells the true sto­ry that inspired the recent Net­flix dra­ma The Red Sea Div­ing Resort.  Join us for what promises to be an amazing conversation between Raffi Berg and Mossad commander, Dani Limor, who carried out the mission, found the famed resort, and recruited the team involved.

Join us for an insider’s view of “Operation Moses,” the incredible journey of aliyah made by thousands of Jews from the ancient Beit Israel community in Ethiopia. In 1979, at the age of one, Naftali Aklum made the arduous and dangerous journey through Sudan to Israel. Forty years later, Naftali served as an image consultant on the 2019 Netflix film, The Red Sea Diving Resort. The film depicts how Naftali’s much older brother, Ferede Yazezow Aklum, was selected by Israel’s Mossad to coordinate the secret rescue of Ethiopian Jews. Naftali’s presentation and interview with Shy Ashkenazi will give you the real story behind the film’s account which only captures a part of the narrative, as well as an historical picture of the Beit Israel community from biblical times to today.
