Are you interested in helping out with larger events? We need assistance with fun family events (crafts, activities, food, welcoming guests, etc.), as well as our larger community-wide events such as Good Deeds Day (a day of community service activities) and Israel Fest (a wide variety of opportunities are available at this annual event) and more! Do you want to perform the mitzvah of bikur holim by helping seniors feel more connected to their community? If you enjoy working with a culturally diverse group of seniors and have a desire to help seniors feel less isolated and lonely, being a volunteer driver is a meaningful way to give back to your community. Volunteer drivers pick up non-driving seniors and bring them to programs at the J or anywhere the J administers programs, events or meetings, and then returns them to their homes.

A J Ride volunteer coordinator is needed for about six hours a week to work remotely from your home. The J Rides coordinator works closely with the NV Rides staff at the Pozez Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia (the J) to schedule volunteer driver- based transportation to non-driving adults 55+, so they can attend Pozez JCC programs. Training for this position will be provided, and you will be given a clear understanding of the procedures in coordinating ride request schedules, and ongoing support. You must have a computer with Internet access and a phone. A commitment of at least six months is preferred. Call Jennifer Kanarek, NV Rides Manager at 703.537.3071.

Being a volunteer driver is a meaningful and flexible way to help your non-driving neighbors remain independent so they can age in place in the community they love. Volunteer drivers to bring non-driving seniors to medical appointments and grocery store shopping, and can select their own schedule and destinations.

We are currently looking for volunteers to help support athletes in our adapted sports program. The role of volunteer buddies is under the lead of the coach and assist participants with follow-through of skills/activity, socialization, engagement, and ultimately making sure all are having fun!
