For the health and safety of our community, the J is closed until April 20. We encourage the community to follow all health guidelines including social distancing and washing hands thoroughly.

Kadima and Tikvah

Kadima

Kadima is a recreational social skills camp for children with High-Functioning Autism.

Kadima’s mission is to improve social and emotional skills in a safe and nurturing environment. The camp is designed to provide opportunities to build self-esteem, social competence, independence skills, self-awareness and to foster positive relationships. Campers learn and grow dynamically as the camp is designed for social success in an inclusive environment.

Tikvah (Hope)

Tikvah is a fun, activity-based camp designed to keep teens busy throughout the summer while offering a variety of traditional and skill-based activities in a supportive environment.

Rising 7th–10th graders with ID/DD will have the opportunity to experience Camp Achva both inside and outside of the building with activities ranging from free swim, cooking, and archery to an array of field trips. We will be out and about in the community multiple days during the week taking fun outings that may include classic camp trips, community service projects, working together on team-building skills, and much more! Although the main goal of this camp is to kick back and enjoy summer, we will naturally be working on social skills development, life skills, and self-awareness.

Admission Process: Each new child who submits an application to Kadima or Tikvah must have an interview. Applications are dated and time-stamped. Space is limited!

INCLUSION AT ACHVA:

We support the inclusion of all children in camp, regardless of one’s physical, social or emotional needs. Camp is a place to learn, grow and have fun! If your child needs additional support to ensure a successful summer at Camp Achva, we can arrange for an Inclusion Support Staff (Shadow) at an additional cost. Priority will be given to campers who register by May 9 for either the full summer or 4-week session.  We look forward to supporting you and your child for a successful and fun-filled summer!

Please contact Arlene Lechner,  or 703.537.3032, to arrange for an Inclusion Support Staff or for any other accommodations.
