As we say goodbye to the season’s peach crisp and the dog days of summer….we say hello to CRISPER air and… APPLES! I’ve included an Apple Crisp recipe below and, hope you can join us for APPLE PICKING ON SEPTEMBER 26 (details below).
As we welcome Rosh Hashanah and the start of a sweet, new year… let’s first reminisce about what a great summer we shared together, then look forward to the year ahead…
We were thrilled to stay connected to each other online and in person with our Sweet Summer Series, playgroups galore throughout Northern Virginia, laughing in Afternoon Sillies, and enjoying lunch n crafts at Bite Size Fun. Our Divas and Diners ladies enjoyed connecting online for dinner, drinks, and schmoozing. If you had a chance to come play with us, I’m sure you’ll agree, it was a chocked full of FUN summer!
And now, guess what? There are so many more experiences to come! Fall is full of exciting programs as we watch the leaves change and go from ice cream to pumpkin. Together, we’ll welcome the holy days with Rosh Hashanah programs and celebrations. Have an opportunity for Tachlich (casting off) at the J when you are invited to write your messages and toss them in the water (see times listed on the JCC website). Join generations together for apple picking. Gather for Sukkot Hopping AND much, much more! Check out our FB pages – Growing Jewish Families and our neighborhood pages -- and the Pozez JCC website for details.
Wishing everyone L’Shanah Tovah ~ happy, and healthy new year!

Here’s one of my favorite apple crisp recipes to enjoy for the upcoming holidays!
4 medium apples, sliced
¾ C packed brown sugar
½ C all-purpose flour
½ C quick cooking or old fashioned oats
1/3 C butter, softened
¾ t ground cinnamon
¾ t ground nutmeg
Vanilla ice cream (if desired, to top warm crisp) yummmmm
Heat oven to 375 degrees. Spray or butter 8 inch square pan. Spread apples in pan. In medium bowl, stir remaining ingredients. (mix well) Sprinkle over apples. Bake about 30 mins., until golden brown and apples are tender. Serve warm with ice cream.
