We have the safety and continued good health of our members and staff at the forefront of our preparations for the phased re-opening of our facilities. In addition to incorporating guidance from experts in the field of fitness and wellness, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and state and local governments, we have engaged Global Engineering Solutions to advise us on specific preventive measures the J can implement to keep our community safe. Additionally, we have established a health advisory committee comprised of professionals in public health policy here in Fairfax County. We are confident that we are taking the right approach to opening a safe and healthy environment where our community will feel comfortable and welcomed.
Please review the following policies and procedures so you are familiar with the expectations of our guests prior to your arrival. It will make for a smooth and seamless admission to the J.
ENTERING THE J:
1. Safe Physical Distancing is a Must: You’ll notice markers spaced 6’ apart as you approach the entrance doors. Please allow the person ahead of you to advance before moving to the next marker.
2. Face Covering Required/No Disposable Gloves: Prior to entering the J, everyone 10 years of age and older must have a face mask covering your nose and mouth. Disposable gloves must be removed. Soap and water and hand sanitizer is readily available for comprehensive hand hygiene practices once inside.
When in the J-FIT HEALTH CLUB workout spaces, face masks are recommended, although not required during heavy exertion or while outdoors.
3. COVID-19 Related Health Screening: As you approach the Guest Services Desk, you will read two questions:
a. Are you experiencing any of the following symptoms: cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fever, chills, muscle pain, sore throat, and/or new loss of taste or smell?
b. Have you been in contact with someone known or presumed to have COVID-19 within the past 14 days?
If you can answer “No” to both questions, you will be allowed to proceed.
If you must answer “Yes” to having symptoms: you will not be admitted to the J that day and may return once you are symptom and fever free and it’s been at least 10 days since the onset of your symptoms.
If you must answer “Yes” to having been in contact with someone known or presumed to have COVID-19: you will not be admitted to the J that day and may return 14 days from your last exposure to that individual.
4. Liability Waiver – the first time you enter the J for in-person programs, you must submit a signed waiver. This can be downloaded from theJ.org (under the Register tab on the top navigation bar), printed and signed to bring with you upon your return. Forms will also be made available at the Guest Services Desk. Once your waiver is submitted, a sticker will be adhered to your Pozez JCC ID so that each time you re-enter the J, you can simply show your ID with the sticker denoting that you have a waiver on file.
5. Body Temperature Checks: Once the above steps are complete, your temperature will be taken with a non-contact thermometer which is placed a few inches from your forehead.
Temperatures of 100.4 and more – you will not be admitted and may return 24 hours from the time your temperature was taken.
6. Once you have passed the screening, you may proceed to your destination.
• Throughout the day, J-FIT HEALTH CLUB support staff and our maintenance staff are equipped with disinfectant spray bottles and towels for regular cleaning of all high-touch surfaces with EPA-listed disinfectant.
• Comprehensive deep cleaning and disinfecting processes are being implemented in the J-FIT HEALTH CLUB and throughout the J each evening.
• Additional hand sanitizing and cleaning stations have been installed. These stations provide disinfecting products for members to apply before and after using equipment.
SAFE PHYSICAL DISTANCING:
• Throughout the facilities, signage has been posted to facilitate increased spacing between members upon entering the main building, throughout the J-FIT HEALTH CLUB including between fitness equipment, and throughout various areas of the buildings.
• You will notice that signs designating particular equipment are not in use have been placed on equipment around the J-FIT HEALTH CLUB. This marks equipment temporarily out of service to adhere to safe distancing requirements or that need disinfecting.
SHOWERS, SAUNAS, AND POOL ARE CLOSED:
Until further notice, the pool, showers, and saunas are not in use. We will continue to evaluate their status based federal and state guidance, health considerations, and financial impact.
With the showers closed, the shower towel service has been discontinued. Members may bring their own workout towel from home, or use one provided by the J.

Cardholders are always encouraged to bring guests to enjoy the J! We open our doors to anyone who would like to drop in to enjoy our facilities unaccompanied by a member for those 13 years and older.
Day Pass: $20 for general admission unless accompanied by a J-Journey or J-Pass cardholder ($10).
Membership Upgrades: One-day membership upgrades are available for $10 to J-Journey and J-Pass cardholders.
Passes may be purchased at the Guest Services desk.
Saturday passes must be paid in advance (Shabbat Payment Policy).
Guest IDs: Guests over the age of 16 will be asked to scan a valid driver’s license or other state/federal issued photo identification upon arrival. Temporary guest badges will be given to authorized guests who must enter secured areas of the building.
The safety of our cardholders and guests is our top priority. When joining, each cardholder (age 13+) is issued a Photo-ID that must be swiped at secured access doors in order to gain entry throughout the building. When entering the J, swipe your ID card at a scanning station (located at the Guest Services and Security Desks) each time you enter the building.
ID cards may be requested for individuals who are authorized to regularly pick up children from the Pozez JCC Early Childhood Learning Center and School-Age Services programs.
Members over the age of 16 without an ID card from the J will be asked to scan a valid driver's license or other state/federal issued photo identification upon arrival. Temporary guest badges will be given to authorized guests who must enter secured areas of the building.
Replacement of ID cards is handled at the Guest Services desk or with the Membership Department. A $10 replacement fee is charged for lost/misplaced and damaged cards. Individuals who temporarily misplace their card may enter the facility once by presenting a photo ID to the staff and signing in at the Guest Services desk.
Full cash refunds will be given if the Pozez JCC cancels an activity due to insufficient enrollment. Cancellation prior to the first day of the session will incur a $7 handling charge* that is deducted from any refund. No refunds will be processed for one-time programs after the program has begun.
Credit is given for classes if one cancels after the first meeting and before the second. The credit amount is prorated, less a $7 processing fee*. Credits must be presented at the time of use to be valid. Credits cannot be used toward membership, preschool tuition, daycare or camp fees. Other restrictions may apply.

The Pozez JCC observes kashruth, which requires a strict separation of meat and dairy foods. All food and drink brought into the J must be dairy or parve. For information, please call the Pozez JCC.
When it comes to Passover, Ashkenazi Jews and Sephardic Jews have very different food traditions. All Jews, both Sephardic, and Ashkenazi, prohibit the eating of chametz during Passover as directed in the Torah. Chametz items include the following grains: wheat, oats, rye, barley, spelt. These grains are prohibited if they’ve had any contact with water/moisture, which leads to rising or “leavening.” Leavening agents like yeast and sourdough are also considered chametz.
In addition to chametz, Ashkenazi Jews traditionally prohibit the consumption of kitniyot during Passover. These items, known commonly as rice, corn, millet, and legumes, have been banned for centuries by Ashkenazi Jews. The origin of the ban is unclear; it’s thought that perhaps kitniyot was considered too similar to grains. Grains and kitniyot often shared the same storage bags, so it’s possible there was a concern that chametz might accidentally be mixed in with the kitniyot and consumed during Passover. Another theory is that kitniyot expand when immersed in water, which may have been perceived by the early rabbis as a form of rising or leavening. Whatever the reason, most Ashkenazi Jews today stick to the ban on kitniyot, even though it’s not technically prohibited by Torah law.
Sephardic Jews do consume kitniyot during Passover. They are, however, careful about ingredients co-mingling. In the Middle East, it’s not uncommon to see Sephardic women sifting through bags of rice and lentils repeatedly, going through grain by grain to ensure no chametz is mixed in.
Items included in the kitniyot category are rice, corn, millet, dried beans and lentils, peas, green beans, soybeans, peanuts, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, mustard. Here at the Pozez Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia, we follow the Ashkenazi tradition of avoiding kitniyot during Pesach and will continue to do so, when providing food items such as snacks during childcare hours or other food items shared with our members. We do, however, recognize and respect that there are other Jewish traditions followed by some of our members that do permit the consumption of kitniyot during Passover. With this in mind, we are expanding our current Pesach Kashrut policy to include the consumption of kitniyot in personal lunches or snacks. It is our goal to be inclusive and welcoming to all Jewish traditions at this special time of the year. In observance of Shabbat, the Pozez JCC does not handle money or conduct business transactions on Friday night and Saturdays. For the convenience of members and guests who would like to make a payment during Shabbat, forms and money may be deposited in the Shabbat drop box at the front desk. All forms and payment submitted will be processed during regular business hours.
